December 17, 2014 6PM: Women In Game Design

Seattle Association for Women in Science’s December Program
“Women in Game Design”

PROGRAM DETAILS
December 17, 2014 • 6:00pm – 8:00pm

Recreational gaming makes up a huge part of the game design industry, but our love of electronic gaming is also driving rapid innovation in the way that humans interact with and through computers, and research into the ways we learn and educate. However, most games and the science around them are skewed towards the male experience because women only make up 11% of game designers. Please join Seattle AWIS to discuss the broad scope of games design and research, and the emerging role of women in this industry with our distinguished panelists:

Kim Swift, Senior Designer at Amazon Game Studios;

Holly Hirzel, Senior Producer and Program Manager at Microsoft Studios (XBOX),

Eleanor O’Rourke, PhD candidate at the Center for Game Science at the University of Washington Computer Science and Engineering Department, and

Jen Sward, Associate Dean and Principle Lecturer at DigiPen Institute of Technology.

Our panelists will discuss their specific programs, their research into human-computer interaction and game software design and production, and their experiences working as women in the computer science industry.

All AWIS meetings are FREE and open to both members and non-members, both men and women!

Volunteer for an AWIS Committee!

We invite you to share your ideas and talents and expand your network of colleagues by volunteering for an AWIS committee. You can serve for an entire year or even just a single event or task!  We especially invite you to join the Programming Committee– this is one of the most active and exciting parts of our organization. All of our committees actively recruit throughout the year to help generate new ideas and engage our members: this helps us create programming, special events, and chapter tools that are tailored to our current, up-to-the-minute interests and recruit new members. We hope to see all of our members take the opportunity to volunteer with a committee and more deeply engage our chapter. We can’t wait to work with you! To find out more about volunteering, view this flyer or contact any of our committees below:
