Seattle AWIS – Movie Screening – Coded Bias
Grab some popcorn, bring a friend, and come join Seattle AWIS for a special screening of Coded Bias. Learn about how machine-learning algorithms can perpetuate society’s existing class, race, and gender inequities, and learn more about the MIT Media Lab researcher, Joy Buolamwini, who found that the algorithm couldn’t detect her face… until she put on a white mask
When MIT Media Lab researcher Joy Buolamwini discovers that facial recognition does not see dark-skinned faces accurately, she embarks on a journey to push for the first-ever U.S. legislation against bias in algorithms
